The
company's stated aim is to source all fresh fruit and veg from local
farmers. Asda have a local sourcing team working to identify local
fresh produce and then work with small local suppliers to enable
their products to reach our stores. The specialist team includes
regional buyers based in Scotland & Wales and local marketing,
technical & supply experts. Local products are defined as those
that are made locally, grown locally and reared locally; are a local
taste or delicacy and recognised by customers as local and for which
there is significant customer demand. By the end of 2007 Asda grocery
hope to have around 3500 local products on sale, supplied by over
300 local suppliers. The company claims that 90% of the meat and
fresh produce they sell, comes from British farmers. Nearly all
carrots, most of the spuds, every single pint of milk all year round,
and every duck and turkey sold is from local farmers. |
